This is a competitive G5/G6 boys travel soccer team.
Ages 8-12 and those entering grades 4-6 in the fall are encouraged to come to practices and in September/October
will be notified if they made the team. Practice locations are TBD but
will include Palmyra Community Center, Webster Bible, Rothfuss Park in
Penfield, Dryer Road Park in Victor, and Ridgecrest Park in Webster.
Starting in November we will hold practices weekly with kids who have
made the team and that location will most likely be at Webster Bible
and/or Palmyra Community Center. During the colder months we will meet
at various gyms and community centers as availability allows. Warmer
months we will hold practices outside to keep costs lower. Practices will also be held on Fridays during the day, some Saturdays
when Unity recreational soccer is not in session, and Monday afternoons and are limited to a max of 12 kids per coach. All coaches for this league will be required to undergo a background check and you may drop off your child for practice. We will aim for 1 practice per month until November.
We will participate in a minimum of 4 tournaments starting winter 25-26 in and
around Rochester. These tournaments take place on Saturdays and Sundays
and will require parents to drive their player(s) to various locations
in Monroe, Ontario, and Wayne counties.
In the end, only 10-12 boys will be on the team
(girls are welcome to practice with
us and try out for the team as well but we will be entering tournaments that are predominantly boys' teams). If other parents step up to be coaches we can form more teams.
Please contact Janelle Allen if you want to be a coach of your own team
or fill out the registration for it and she will reach out to you.
We
will emphasize all of these skills during our practices and if your
child is willing to put the work in they should see an improvement. In
order to be considered for the team, this is what we will look for in a
player:
1. Christ-like behavior. God calls us to
be set apart from the world and we will be playing other teams and
schools that may not have Christian players. We are to always be
encouraging to each other, the coaches, refs, and other teams. We are
always to be careful in what we say and to make sure it glorifies God.
We are always to lift each other up and be a light to the world. We will
always be respectful of property and persons.
2. Individual skills.
Due to the nature of indoor soccer, every player must have excellent
ball handling skills. Players should be able to trap, redirect, and make
logical and clear passes to their teammates. They should be able to
dribble on a hard surface while keeping the ball under control. Players
should have a sense of where to kick the ball and where to be in order
to receive a pass. Players will also need to play their positions and
move to open spaces to keep possession and move the ball down the field.
3. Teamwork.
Players must work well with their teammates. Individual skills will
only take you so far in a team sport. Players should be able to
communicate with their teammates, pass well, and cheer each other on.
4. Coach-ability. Players
must demonstrate that they will listen to guidance and constructive
criticism from the coach(es) and apply what they are being told. Players
should not speak when coach(es) are speaking and be attentive during
practices. There will be time for fun as well, but overall the practices
will be more structured and fast paced.
5. A love of the game. Soccer should be fun, exciting, and a welcome challenge!
Registration
covers the cost of insurance for the league and registration costs. It
does not cover the rental fees for practices or tournament fees. Parents
will make the decision on whether to buy jerseys or t-shirts to wear
for the tournaments once the team is formed. Tournament costs are
separate and will be assessed once the team is formed
($15-20/player/tournament on average)
Any player who
proves to be a distraction during practices will not be able to
attend future practices and no refund will be given.
